My 3 Favourite Theme Park Boat Rides

Good Morrow and welcome to the second instalment of our new weekly Thursday Three blog series. Last week Charlotte talked all about why we love the Alton Towers Hotels and today I (Carl) am concentrating on my three favourite theme park boat rides in the world.

I’m looking forward to seas’ing the day before I succumb to pier pressure. Buoy this is going to be fun. Ok, ok enough with the boat puns! They get boring ferry quickly…

1. Pirates of the Caribbean – Magic Kingdom

Mickeys Not So Scary Halloween Party

What can I say about this fantastic dark ride?! I’m not a fan of the film so this was one of the rides that passed me by before our trip to Walt Disney World. Like, I literally didn’t even think about it in the run-up to our holiday. I knew it existed, obviously, and I knew it was popular, but that’s about it.

I didn’t know anything about its history and can’t remember the Paris version, even though I know I’ve been on it. Maybe I was too young to appreciate it since my last visit to DLP was in the mid-90s. That all changed when I got on Pirates of the Caribbean at Walt Disney World though – WOW.

The immersion is incredible, it feels like you’re right there in pirate times, and I think my eyes almost popped out of my head at the big battle scene at the beginning – an amazing use of effects to make the sky look like it goes on forever. These little details are what makes this the best theme park boat ride in the world in my opinion and a must-do during my dream day at Magic Kingdom.

I’ve always been fascinated by Pirates – Monkey Island represent yo! (I expect like two people to understand that reference!) – so when it comes to Pirates of the Caribbean, yo ho yo ho it’s definitely a pirates life for me.

2. Valhalla – Blackpool Pleasure Beach

I think having a dark ride of this scale and theming in the UK is just brilliant. This ride has everything – great theming, wonderful effects (I mean, who doesn’t love fire on a ride?) and you get well and truly soaked.

Although the drenching isn’t usually great with the miserable weather we have up north. Rain aside, it’s a must-ride for me on every visit to Blackpool Pleasure Beach. Maybe bring some waterproofs with you though!

3. Jurassic River Adventure – Islands of Adventure

Jurassic Park River Adventure

I love Jurassic Park. In my opinion, it’s one of the greatest films ever so there is no way this wasn’t going to make it onto my list of favourite theme park boat rides. I love the franchise, although we can ignore that Jurassic Park 3 never happened, like I kind of wish the movie studio had done.

This was one of the theme park boat rides I was most looking forward to. Since it opened in 1999 it had been a dream of mine to experience both the attraction and the whole Jurassic Park area. The theming is amazing and the ride itself is incredible. As you can see from the picture, I really enjoyed this one. So much so that I accidentally ruined the ride photo for everyone else by blocking their faces! Oh well, sucks to be them.

Now is the time for me to sail away. Do you agree with my top three theme park boat rides or am I well off? As always, let me know your thoughts in the comments.

Keep Smiling,

Carl

I love all the POTC films and really enjoyed the ride in Disneyland last year. Looking forward to doing Jurassic Park although not so sure I am looking forward to getting soaked!

We really want to go on the one at Disneyland – a definite one for our bucket list! It’s great, and you soon dry off in the Florida heat 🙂
