My 3 Best Rides at Hollywood Studios

tower of terror is one of the best rides at Hollywood studios

Good Morrow, and welcome to the latest instalment of our Thursday three series. It been a few weeks since I’ve written one so I thought I best pull my finger out and get back to something I started a few weeks ago, when I shared my three best rides at Epcot, and continue going through the parks in Orlando. I guess its like a mini-series within a series – or something like that!

I’m going to be doing all the Thursday threes between now and our trip (five weeks and six days to go) to ensure I get all the parks done before we jet off. Today I’m continuing with Disney at what I’d say is my third favourite Disney park, the amazing Hollywood Studios.

As we haven’t seen Toy Story Land in the flesh – or even on video as we’ve avoided them all – the two new rides are not included in this list. I’m sure that will be amended once we get back.

Right, enough chitter chatter, here’s my best rides at Hollywood Studios.

1. Tower of Terror

There is just something special about this ride; the first time you see it as you drive through Walt Disney World, the view of it from the top of Sunset Boulevard, the little walk up to the ‘hotel’, the screams you hear along the way, the stunning theming as you walk through the lobby into the wonderful boiler room – I could go on and on.

In fact, why don’t I? The costumes the cast members wear, the numbers that tell you which floor the elevator is on as it moves up and down, the epic voiceover, the amazing ghost scene, the feeling as the elevator moves across the floor, the music, the drops, the open shots of the outside world and of course, the little Memory Maker video you get on the My Disney Experience app.

As I’m sure you can gather, I adore this ride and I never want it to change to Guardians of the Galaxy like it’s counterpart in California. No offence to that version, the fans of that version or the franchise, I just never want ‘ours’ to change.

2. Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster

Rock n Roller coaster is one of the best rides at Hollywood Studio

This was our first ride in the park. After walking down the incredible Sunset Boulevard – have I mentioned how much I love Sunset Boulevard?! – and taking it all in, I was soooooo pumped for this.

The theming on the outside is impressive, yet simple and although the queue line flat-out sucks, once you reach the pre-show there’s a great little video of Areosmith inviting you to take a ride in what would need to be a MASSHOOOSIVE limo.

The launch packs a punch and the coaster is everything an indoor coaster should be. Thrilling (unlike Space Mountain at Magic Kingdom which is one my most overrated rides in Orlando, if not ever) with great audio and flashing lights as you fly round the track. It left me wanting to ride it again which is all you can really ask for from one of the best rides at Hollywood Studios.

3. Toy Story Mania

Controversial to most but I think this ride is another incredibly overrated ride – in fact, I much prefer Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin – but I’m a little stuck for choice here. I don’t like Star Wars (like really don’t like it), I just don’t get it or get the fuss. I mean, some twerp with a black helmet, a cape and a sore throat waving a fluorescent light tube around thinking it’s a sword just doesn’t do it for me. But, each to their own and all that.

So Star Tours to me is an ok ride with theming I detest. Turn that bad boy into Mordor and have Gandalf there to greet me and it would be a completely different story, but alas it’s not and I’m stuck with a choice between something I really dislike and something I really think is overrated. Overrated wins.

Keep Smiling,
