Good Morrow, and welcome back to our latest Thursday three! As I said last week, I’m going to be in charge of this series over the next few weeks as I want to cover my top three rides in all the Orlando parks before we go on our jollies. Today I’m continuing with Walt Disney World and my three best rides at Animal Kingdom.
After my best rides at Epcot and best rides at Hollywood Studios posts, it only made sense to continue the Disney love-in with my second favourite Disney World park. I literally have lists for all my favourite things in Animal Kingdom in many, many categories because I’m a huge geek and I love it.
As always seems the case, I have a disclaimer! Flight of Passage is not on this list. Don’t be coming at me with hate – the simple fact is that due to a cock up with our tickets linking to My Disney Experience, we booked fast passes late last year and couldn’t get a single fast pass for Flight of Passage – so we haven’t ridden it yet. We will be doing it at least twice next time though so, yay.
The Na’vi River ride is also not on this list. We rode it but – stunning animatronic aside – it was very, very dull and nearly put us to sleep.
Any how, the list of my best rides at Animal Kingdom…
#1 Expedition Everest
To the surprise of absolutely no-one who follows us on Twitter, Everest is my number one. Until I rode The Incredible Hulk over at IOA (literally three days later) this briefly became my number one coaster. It was actually beaten twice in a few days as Mako at Seaworld pipped it to the coveted number two spot.
That said, anyone who loves coasters must surely love Everest. The theming is wonderful and the queue line is fascinating for a theme park nerd like me. The coaster itself is just breathtakingly awesome; the drops, the speed, the sound – I literally love everything about it.
I know the Yeti is broken but it’s still pretty impressive. There’s rumours that it will indeed be fixed and possibly very soon but hopefully not before we get there because if this was closed, I’d be sat outside the entrance crying like a baby.
#2 Kali River Rapids
We had so much fun on the rapids, despite queueing over 30 minutes – with a fast pass and in a queue that was hotter than the sun. We were lucky – or unlucky depending on how you look at it – enough to get absolutely soaked.
We knew we were in for it when we were climbing the lift hill as our backwards facing seats had a group of American teenagers (duuuuddddeeee) laughing and pointing at the fact we were about to get very wet indeed. I loved this ride and it’s hands down the best rapids I’ve been on – I can’t wait to get back on it.
I’m a big Dino geek and Jurassic Park is one of my favourite films of all time. I also adore dark rides and love to go on prehistoric expeditions to find dinosaurs. So you can imagine my delight when I found a ride offering me just that in the heart of Animal Kingdom.
There was never any doubt that I wouldn’t like this ride, and boy do I love it. The movements of the vehicle are a bit rough but it’s still great. The voiceover guy is fantastic and I still find myself quoting him 10 months later. The story is great and the dino’s themselves are really well done. It sits in the Dinoland area of the park which sucks and needs work, but this ride makes a trip there more than worthwhile.
And that’s your lot, my three best rides at Animal Kingdom. Agree or disagree? Let us know
