5 New Things To Try at Hollywood Studios

It’s been a while since I posted my new things to try at Epcot post, and with only 23 days until we jet off to Orlando, I’m determined to get this series finished. Next on my hit list is one of my favourite parks –who am I kidding, they’re all my favourite – Hollywood Studios. Apart from the obvious, there aren’t many new things to try at Hollywood Studios, but I’ve still managed to pull a list together, let’s dig in…

#1 Toy Story Land

It wouldn’t be a true list of new things to try at Hollywood Studios without including Toy Story Land. Apart from seeing a few pictures online, we’ve pretty much managed to avoid spoilers for this area entirely. Don’t get me wrong, I love watching Disney vlogs but with this, we kind of wanted to keep the element of surprise. We did this with Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party last year and although we did make a few planning errors, I’m really glad we experienced it all through fresh eyes.

In terms of the area, I think it looks gorgeous with some awesome photo opportunities, Woody’s Lunchbox seems like a great place to pick up a bite to eat and slinky dog dash is sure to be a fun family coster. Add in gigantic Buzz and Wood figures, and I think we have a winning area that I can’t wait to explore.

#2 Beer flights and pretzels at Baseline Taphouse

a baseline tap house beer flight is one of our new things to try at Hollywood Studios

Baseline Taphouse was one of the biggest hits of our last trip to Orlando. It had just opened and we enjoyed a really nice hour sat there enjoying a drink and marvelling in how amazing our honeymoon was. So it goes without saying that we’ll be back.

This time we’re set on sharing a beer flight and a pretzel and spending even longer in this fantastic park location. Seriously, if you haven’t had the pleasure of spending time here yet, you need to do it now.

#3 Muppetvision 3D

This is the only attraction – Star Wars not included – we didn’t do in Hollywood Studios last time, something I really want to remedy on this trip. Although it doesn’t exactly look like it’ll blow our socks off, it’s still one to tick off the list.

Even with Toy Story Land, Hollywood Studios is crying out for more attractions so we absolutely have to go on this one. I do vaguely remember doing it during my earlier trips as a teenager, but as I can’t really remember what happens, this will be like a whole new experience for me.

#4 Mama Melrose

The only place we’ve eaten in Hollywood Studios is Pizzarizzo and Starbucks, so I’m excited to tuck into a proper hearty sit-down meal here. We debated this one as an ADR but as we’re not booked in for any more Italian meals during our trip, we decided to bite the bullet and book.

I’ll be honest, the deal was sealed when we watched a Dis Unplugged Disney Dining Show that showed the mushroom bread starter. Carl hates mushrooms but I love them, and already know I’ll be paying out of pocket for that one. Overall, the reviews of this place seem positive, and we can’t wait to get stuck in.

#5 Character Meets

Who’d have thunk it, more character meets make my list. I mentioned in my new things to try at Magic Kingdom post that character meets make me feel kind of awkward, but I’m determined to get a few more under my belt during our next trip.

Hollywood Studios has a few characters on my Wishlist. First up, is Woody and Buzz. I’m gutted they aren’t in the Andy’s room set-up any more but Toy Story remains one of my favourite films of all time (I even wrote my dissertation on it, that’s how much I love it) and they’re a photo opportunity I’m determined not to miss this time round.

Next is Olaf, I’m pretty fond of this little dude and think the character meet looks pretty cute. I’ve also seen that new characters often practise meet and greets in one of the central areas in Hollywood Studios so I’ll be keeping my eye out for these as well.

And there you have it, five new things to try at Hollywood Studios. Stay tuned for future posts and vlogs to see what I managed to tick off!
