Our 2020 theme park and blog goals

Disney bullet journal for our 2020 theme park goals

And just like that, January is here.

We can’t believe over a year has passed since we wrote our 2019 theme park and blog goals post. We’re back this year with a determination to bring a bit more consistency to this blog and our Instagram. And to finally get our 2018 YouTube series finished.

Below are the goals we’ve set as a couple for the next year.

1. Saving money

We’re afraid it’s not going to be the most exciting of years, as our plan is to start doing some serious saving in 2020. Although we also aimed to do more budget trips in 2019, we spent way more than we planned to.

One of the problems we have is that we book things before we have the money in the bank to pay for them. So we end up scrabbling for money or overestimating what we can save. That’s no more this year. We absolutely have to build up a savings pot.

We have a goal in mind for 2021 (hmmm… wonder what that might be!) but the only way we’re going to reach it is by being super strict this year. With that in mind, you might find we don’t visit many new places in 2020.

We will be introducing a new series here on Walk in the Parks though, our Disney Savers series where we share tips on saving money for Disney trips and advice on planning budget trips.

2. Getting fit for Florida

Another big goal spurring us both on this year is to lose weight. Although we don’t have a Florida trip planned, we know the next time we go we want to be healthier both mentally and physically.

I won’t lie, Orlando was a slog the last time we went. It hurt. And I don’t want it to hurt again. Even if I had the money in the bank, I probably wouldn’t want to go back at the weight I am currently because the pain was fucking miserable.

So we’re going to change that this year. The one thing we’ve both come to realise is that not having anything booked does not mean it can’t still be the goal. So we’re still seeing this journey as getting fit for Florida. Because we will go back eventually and when we do, we don’t want our health to limit what we can do.

We really want to share our journey, so will be starting another new series (it’s all go for 2020) called Fit for Florida where we share our weight loss journey.

3. UK Theme Park Trips

With our main goal this year being to save money, we will only be venturing to UK parks.

We already have our first trip planned (to Blackpool Pleasure Beach with Chris and Sarah in Feb) and I’m sure we’ll fit another couple in by the end of the year. A loose plan is to finish ticking off the northern Parks with Lightwater Valley and Drayton Manor – if we can do them on a budget.

Other than that, we’re thinking of heading back to Flamingo Land to experience the new 10-looping rollercoaster and that’ll be about it. So not very exciting.

4. Grow our community

This one is probably the goal we care most about. We really withdrew from the Disney community in 2019 as we suffered from extreme FOMO that we couldn’t afford to do a trip every year like everyone else seemed to be able to do.

We realised we were being pretty ridiculous, and just because we don’t have a countdown, doesn’t mean we have to remove ourself from the community.

So we’ll be hopping on more live streams, watching more videos, being more present on Twitter and working hard on Instagram to build our community up. Nothing feels better than having a boat-load of Disney pals by your side.

5. Keep building photography and video skills

One of the things we’ve loved doing since we started this blog is taking more pictures and learning how to shoot video – however shaky the footage might be.

One of the things we want to continue doing this year is growing our photography and video editing skills. That means that although we won’t be filming much, we will be capturing more images of the things we do, and sharing videos from the trips we did in 2019. If nothing else this should prepare us for our next Orlando trip where we want to take better pictures and video than ever before.

6. Blog consistently

We’re aware we’ve been a bit bloody inconsistent on this blog over the last couple of years, and we want that to be a thing of the past.

We have loads of post ideas so the plan is to upload one a week, every week from now. We love this blog. We love reading our stories back and having a place to document all our trips and it would be truly gutting not to keep on putting our heart and soul into it.

We want 2020 to be the year we grow our channels, and the only way we’re going to do that is to be consistent. Let’s see how that goes!

So that’s it, our theme park, life and blog goals for 2020 – let’s go smash them! What goals have you set for the new year? Share them with us in the comments.
